I finally got the plans done for the mineral jig. The unit comes in under 20lbs, with pump and motor. The main unit, minus the motor, axle, and other steel items, and a couple pieces of Delrin (acetal) can be built completely from 4" ABS pipe. 1 10' length is about $27.00 at Home Depot. A drill press and tablesaw required. Builder will also need a couple of items machined.
Material cost looks like this.....10' length of 4" ABS at Home Depot $27.00. Motor on EBay $19.00; Delrin on Ebay $3.00; Screws/bolts $5.00; ABS glue $12.00.; aluminum angle $6.00 Steel angle for legs $3.00; misc pipe fittings $4.00; battery clamps & wire $4.00; spring $4.00; axle $1.00; legs; $6.00; Gorilla Glue $4.00; aluminum cam $1.50; screen wire $3.00;
diaphragm material $.50.
That all comes to $103. But, if you don't do machining, you'll have to pay a machinist to make the adapter that adapts the motor to the 1/2" shaft. The motor has a gear on it...the adapter slips over the gear and clamps on with a set screw. The other end of the adapter goes on the 1/2" shaft of the jig, and clamps to it with a set screw. It's a fairly simple part. The adapter may change, depending on what motor you decide to use. I'm using a universal power-window type motor on mine. If you figure an hour of machinist time, you could add maybe $60.
So, materials and machining $163
Blueprints & instructions $45
__________
$208.00 +/-
This motor runs at 75RPM...about the lower end of the speed range for jigs. If you want to have a variable-speed unit, you need a different motor that is sold on Ebay. That motor has an output speed of 200RPM. When it's combined with a PWM speed control, you can have any speed you want. That would add about $80 to the cost.
If you do a Youtube search under "mineral jig" you can see it operate.
Blueprints alone (for advanced builders) $25.00
Blueprints and written instructions, with 32 pictures $45.00
