Poor minelab service and very expensive on my XTERRA 50

Hello I have had a xterra 50 for a few years and this is the second time it has been to Minelab for the same problem. after a month and a half they called and said it had a bad board again it seems. They want 225 dollars to fix the same problem. I also have a explorer se. I will NEVER own another Minelab metal detector. Watch for them they will be up for sale on the classifieds section. JonPa

I'm sorry to hear about your luck with Minelab. I've had my X70 for about 4 years and have had no problems with it. I have read about problems with their service in this forum and hope that I never have to find out. How can the board keep going out? You're not getting it wet or maybe it has fallen over? Mine seems to be like a Timex. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I wish you luck with what ever brand you buy next but if this one is a lemon, please don't sell it to someone who will in turn have the same problems. Just keep on hunting!

Minelab is suppose to have a new service center near Chicago. If any warranty has expired the repair costs have to be paid for unless you own a Tesoro with a life-time warranty.

Since new the only problems I had with my X-70 is the headphone jack where the speaker went dead. I repeatedly plugged it in and out and turned around now it works fine. Also the ears broke on my stock coil which I fixed myself. Otherwise I am happy with my X-70.

If your Explorer SE works fine, maybe get a new X-505 with warranty. Otherwise you might give another detector make a go for a change, like a Tesoro Vaquero-Cortes, White's MXT Pro, Technetics T2 Ltd, or Fisher F75 Ltd.
