poor LC and sterling thimble (old?)

We have had a mild winter like most of the US, and the soil has not been frozen in the daytime yet. Unfortunately, I came down with Lyme disease in late December. My left knee was too painful to detect for about 5 weeks, but the antibiotics finally worked, and I'm almost back to normal. I've been out five times in Feb., but the first two were short hunts because of my knee, and I was not able to go full speed (hard getting up and down).

Finally hit my first silver of 2012 today, a thimble which I'm sure is sterling, although I can't find a mark. It rang up just like a deep silver dime, down about 7 inches. It was stepped on after it was lost, so I can't see all of the inside rim, maybe the mark is there. It has a neat little landscape engraved on it, also the monogram "A". This was in an area of an old park I have hit before, but the grass is short now so I can get closer to the ground. Also found a large cent, but it's in bad shape. You can see some stars on the obverse, and maybe the outline of the bust, but no date. Only two letters visible on the reverse, the "D" in United and the "S" in States (not pictured). The bust looks to be facing left. Probably pre-1835, since the diameter is about 29 mm.

That thimble is sweet..they just don't make things like that anymore :( Good Job!!
