POLL: Replacement shaft for excal 1000?

The best one is the one that you think is balanced perfectly for you.

Someone sells an extension that attaches to the rear portion of your stock pole. Behind the arm. And that is where the tube gets installed. The weight is transferred to the rear and make the stock pole feel extremely balanced.

I have also seen a straight rod, with an extended rear portion for the tube. Again, the weight is on the rear of the pole system and makes it feel extremely well balanced.

Another idea is for you to make your own and place the control tube where you think it would make your machine feel even more balanced.

And another idea would be to make your own using all fiberglass tubing, similar to the water machines of Fisher.

Anyway, what does a perfectly balanced machine feel like? How is it measured? Makes me wonder.

the lightning rod and the babbs are two that seem popular , but I have zero qualifications so my answer is just regergatated speew I read on the forums , but they both seem realible and popular......

Hey aquacop, I use a "Lightening Rod". I love the way the unit mounts to it. The controls are easily accessable for me. Once I obtained the correct height, I drilled through and have stainless bolts, washers and lock nuts holding it together. This keeps that goofy push pin from wallering out the fiberglass lower shaft. It is rock solid. I am 5'10" and usually hunt in the water from waist to chest deep. It works excellent! My wife (Gulf Huntress) has hers set up the same way and she likes hunting the shallow surf area and wet sand. Was recommended by Mike VA Beach and David of Suffolk, who also use them. I'm sure there are PLENTY of options, but that's mine and I'm stickin' to it!

I think the best one is sold by Ron at Dixie. On the one I made I change location a little bit of the control/battery between water and sand. On Ron's there is a strap on the hand grip. This prevents waves from causing the coil to move up a bit. If I had that strap, I wouldn't need to move the control down a bit when in water.

Build your own. You can get the correct size aluminum tubing from Aircraft spruce for about $16.00 bucks, make or buy a cuff, get an end gripp for a bike handle bar. drill your holes and you are good to go

To this problem is this. I have several fiberglass coil shafts for my coils but I whacked off 3 or 4" from one so I had an extension piece that I could stick in the short rod you get with the unit for hipmounting slipped the extension inside the short rod you can gorilla glue it if you want but a couple of holes will have to be drilled. With the extension in place you can put it in the end of your S pole position it so everything clears, drill the hole thru the armpiece to fasten it securely in the shaft the shor rod only has one push retainer but you can either take some out of the main shaft or just use nylon bolts from Lowes....Takes longer to find a drill motor, bit and glue then to do the job. This one I made for my older Excal but the 1000 will be modded next..HH...Geo
