poll question: finding rings

Other than beaches where do you seem to find the most rings? I have started using the dig it all approach to find rings but would like info on as to which sites offer the best potential.

Areas around sports fields,soccer fields,ball diamonds,etc.

I have detected soccer fields and noticed lots of coins around the mid field sidelines where most of the people are. When you size up a field is this where you usually start? Or is there a better area I should be looking at?

WHERE I FIND MOST OF MY RINGS ARE IN AREAS THAT WERE USED MANY YEARS AGO. MOST OF THE RINGS ARE 40 OR 50 YEARS OLD. SOME SPOTS ARE COVERED OVER IN BRUSH OR TALLER GRASS. MANY OF THESE TARGETS HAVE A WEEK SIGNAL OR A SIGNAL CLOSE TO A PULL TAB.

... best spots are the grassy areas around public swimming pools, horseshoe pits (really!), sand volleyball courts, and football or soccer fields used by "weekend warriors," young married guys who play for fun on the weekends.

we search the actual playing field that are used by these maverick players?
If so then I would imagine the prime spots would be the center of field, slightly wider than the goal post and work that entire area from goal post to goal post?
Also what coil would you recommend? I would imagine the stock coil would enable you to cover a slightly larger area than the 6X9DD and also would allow you to swing a little faster? This area would probably not be trashy either.

Yes,where people sit along the sidelines of soccer fields is good.About anywhere within the playing field will produce a ring now and then.At ball diamonds,I search the areas outside the fence from first base around the back stop and down to third base. Also, the throwing warm up areas.

Yes; typically men take their rings off to play football, put them in their pockets, and when tackeled, rings get lost. Yes, the center of the field sees the most action. Any coil will do. When using the 10x6 DD, sweep a little slower. Many modern Class rings are a combination of stainless steel, and some gold; dig "iffy" signals. If you use a metal probe to pinpoint targets, don't give up if you don't encounter resistance; oftentimes probes deflect on, or miss, rings. HH jim

Although beaches or lakes are probably the best for jewelry, I've had decent luck finding rings and other jewelry in some local parks (though I'm not sure why people are losing rings at the park). School fields have been okay too, although most of these have been cheapies worn by students.

THE INFIELD DIRT OF A SOFTBALL DIAMOND AND OUT ABOUT 20 FEET. BEHIND THE BASES.START AT FIRST BASE AND WORK YOUR WAY AROUND TO THIRD BASE.THROWS COME IN FROM THE OUT FIELDERS AND A LOT OF ACTION AROUND THE BASES. FOUND A LOT OF MENS GOLD WEDDING BANDS.PULLTAB TO BOTTLE CAP RANGE. H/H JOE

Some really good ideas. Looks like I will be going back to some of the ball fields and checking other area within the fields. Thats what I like about this forum many great ideas that I often overlooked. So much ground and so little time. Will keep you posted on my results. HH

Wolfman,
Some of my best finds have come from areas that are not places most detectorists hunt.Search the unobvious looking areas of a field or park.Especially the outer edges.Good luck.
