Police intimidation?

I hunt occasionally with a state LEO and we have talked about this before. He says with the exception of hunting where we shouldn't (Fed lands) most LEOs kinda think you're ok because you have the gumption to do all that work to find some small returns. The bad guys aren't that productive or busy in life.

Here is what I would do if you I were being watched by a policeman in his car.
I would walk up to the police car, wave so he/she would not feel threatened and then talk
to him/her and explain what do are doing, show them some of you finds and ask him/her
if they would like to give it a try after they get off!

I have nothing but respect for law enforcement. They would probably
would love to check out our hobby, maybe they already have a detector.

Hey! After this exchange, maybe you could offer to assist law enforcement if they need to
recover something. If you have a Pro Pointer, demonstrate it to them, show them you
have something in common! BTW, Garrett makes a "tactical Pro Pointer" looks similar
to our Pro Pointer.

Just my humble opinion. HTH!

Funny story about Police and Metal Detecting.............I was at a wedding after party, at about 2 am at the hotel me and a few other decided that it was a great idea to hit the woods across the street from the hotel. These are all my friends who bust my balls about metal detecting anyway. So I had my detector in my truck, so I said "lets go!!" The four of us head across the street with a shovel, a metal detector, two guys still in our suits, and the girls had changed by now. And we all had beers in our hands. A cop pulled up and said " what kind of detector is that?" I said " Garrett Gtax 750" he said " thats cool man, have fun guys" hahaha Nice huh? 2am 4 people drinking and treasure hunting in suits. And he says 'have fun" I love it.

Wasn't in Texas I bet :-( I would love to have cool stories like this. My luck just ain't as good, but it could be all me. martin

It has been my experience of well over a half century that Cops are just people like us. The way they
respond to us is most often a result of our response to them. Give em' a frown and turn away and it
might make them curious about you. Give them a nod and a smile and they will likely return it to you.
Warm regards, Jim
