Polar plot?

I am home for a break the beach is hot today spent the morning in the water got a small silver ring and a gold plated ear ring. Will post pics tomorrow. Changed to a 950 eclipse I think the D2 is too sensitive for the water as well as the machine itself. I may have to take the sensitivity down a bit getting either some falsing or some really deep targets it gets confusing especially in the heat. Did nail many targets in the 3 to 8 inch range.

Using polar plot today and am getting confused some targets are not deep 3-4 inches and refuse to show in polar plot. What gives? Is this my machine acting up or does this happen from time to time? Im wondering if my nine and a half eclipse is bad...

First, the correct coil to use at the beach is the 9.5 not the D2. This is a known fact.

The polar plot will not work if the V3i is being triggered by EMI. You have to start with the detector to the side of the target. Wait a second or two then make your single pass. Then you have to wait a couple seconds if you want to make another pass.

Thanks Rob, I might add that the D2 was killer on the dry. It hasn't rained here for days so the dry was really dry should have put her in 22khz. It did not perform well in the wet. I still think I have to take the sensitivity down a bit on the 950. Interesting few days I learned a lot and got some nice finds I'll post them when I get a minute. Thanks for the Polar plot info Bought this detector used still has a year and a half warranty it did not come with a manual or DVD. Mary is sending everything I need. Been reading the manual on line.

Download the manual to your computer. It is a PDF so it has a search feature which makes findings things fast.

The V3 has more info, and the VX3 manual has the best explanation of theory.

It sounds like you are getting a good grasp on working the V3i. Don't be afraid to turn the V way down while beach hunting for stability, you will still get plenty of depth.

Polar plot is killer but it falses a lot with screw caps and pull tabs. So you have to see what frequencies hit highest. I find that the 22khz frequency is always highest in case of a pull tab and they usually register with a vdi of 22-26
Bottle screw caps usually have the 7.5khz frequency as the highest and the vdi arround 55-58.
Unfortunately many coins fall into the screw caps VDI and readings so I am picking up a lot of them. Pull tabs I dig one once in a while to confirm it's not a ring....

Best of luck.

Im finding bottle caps to be a bit of a problem especially wet or older rusted stuff. Just got to dig them I once had a pretty big gold ring on my dfx vdi in that range. Plus on this machine ive had a few that look to be in the 80's... dont think I had that problem with my dfx, probably missed a lot of good stuff. Pull tabs ill dig all day long cause out of a few hundred you will find gold. Ill use polar plot with caution or anything under 4 inches or so. Loving the idea of learning this machine. Back at it at first light. PS. Im self employed and take care of my mom full time. Just taking some time off!
