Plundering Sea Isle to Brigantine

OldBeechnut

Well-known member
Was able to get out and plunder the Jersey shores for about 10 hours total this past week... it was bitter cold and windy. Meet up with some great guys, RatPack, EZswing (bob CZ21), Synthnut (jim AT Pro) shared some great stories and idea's. Learned alot about the CZ21 10 inch, AT Pro, did a few test/compares with the Amped Excalibur 10 inch, with 3 different size Gold rings in the wet sands, got all on video with some surprising results. Leaving out alot of the details..the CZ21 was the only detector that could get a solid hit on the 15 inch deep 7.5 gram ring, the excal could see the target but it was far from something you would recognize if you did not know it was there, very faint. Preveious test the excaibur with the amp the ring came in at 12-14 inch's in OC Maryland...this test a good solid hit at 12 inch, This was OC New Jersey. With the AT PRO seeing the ring at 9 inch's. Results could be different at your beach due to the matrix of the sand, this beach had heavy Black sand.

Targets were far and few on the Jersey Shores, maybe getting in 2-3 hour hunts in each day, for the 3 days. We Meet up with RatPack (Excal II) a couple days, got some great tips on hunting the Beach's, and he shared a few Hot Spots with us..the very last being the most productive & coldest...we hunted from Sea Isle to Brigantine the 3 days...the secret to the Jersey shores, knowing your beach's history and Recognizing how they have changed from time to time.
The Loot, Silver only
But the best treasure was had with friends. Thanks EZ, Synthnut, RP for making the trip and the time to hang out.......with Jeff and OBN.

glad you had a good time.... its a shame the weather wasnt warmer ,but it is january....thanks for sharing...

Great to meet and hunt with you guys !

Wonderful you got out. LOL I am too chicken to be a bobcicle!! The thing that your not sure about LOOKS like an old brass lipstick container. I have between 50 and a hundered in a drawer.

Happy hunting and keep having fun!!

Joe

Thanks for the story and pictures, nothing like getting out and hunting with friends and sharing experiences and tips.

I enjoyed the time hunting with you guys. You see the difference from one beach to another and its for that reason I do my scouting before I go. Look me up next year and maybe a strong storm will move this sand out to sea. Best of luck in the new year. By the way, Im now RETIRED

Glad you all got together. Hope to see OBN's video sometime.

Saw EZ's video on the CZ (great video by the way) and was surprised autotune did not look as deep as discriminate by a good bit (if I listened to it correctly). My CZ6a will pull faint but noticeable autotune response about where the discriminate mode gets iffy, while the CZ20 is maybe very slightly better response in discriminate mode than autotune.
Cheers,

Thanks Guy, Joe I can wait for the warm either..can't come fast enough.

By the way, Im now RETIRED
Bill
Congrads on the retirement, I know that is a big relief for you..see you in a couple years...
RP you are so right, one beach to the next is like night and day..thanks for the tips on the difference and what to look for...that last beach had lots of good targets, and I know Gold was there but man it was Bitter cold...even the Hot hands heater paks were freezing up

Scuba you were right, I noticed it had the push up button on the side....old relic's=trash to me

TVR, I need some one with a CZ20/21 with a couple hours of free time..to do the same test here in the Bay..you are one of the best around that I know ...got a few minutes....I got the headcam you can clip to your baseball cap..Bring your Old excal and CZ..I'll bring my CZ20 I got from therover, and the same excal, same rings in the test...Anyone else is more welcome but it has to be a warm Saturday or Sunday...54 n up..

Hope to see OBN's video sometime.

I still have to edit my video of the OBN EZ compare on Gold rings, right now I'm in the middle of changing the Excalibur coil video....from the stocker to a WOT.

TVR...I find the same thing with my CZ20 when I cannot ground balance, that it gets better results in discriminate mode. When I viewed the video, EZ had mentioned he could not ground balance and had the GB on 0. I wonder if he had tested autotune mode with the GB at 5, and then again at 10, if there would have been much difference. He had stated that he heard the change in threshold, but you could not hear it in the video whereas you could definitely hear the beep in discriminate mode.

Seems to me in order to get the optimal depth in autotune mode, the GB has to be spot on, so one can tell the subtle differences in the threshold change. Also, it's probably easier to hear the faint beep in discriminate mode on fringe depth targets than the change in threshold in autotune...at least for me it is, hence me always thinking discriminate mode is 'deeper' on my CZ20.

Good video. Hope Joe can post his soon.

Therover, your right on in the above post. In auto tune and the deepest target. The threshold change wasn't very pronounced. You could hardly hear it. Only because i knew the target was there is how i was hearing it. Iv'e always felt that Autotune was better for coverage than depth. Kind of a wide scan mode. Good point on changing the GB to see if it would do better. I plan on doing more testing this weekend and will give it a try.

Right on too EZ. The only time I hunt in autotune with my CZ's is when the beaches are sanded in or targets are scarce, and I want to cover more ground and have a wide scan footprint on the coil. Plus, I have found you can swing faster in autotune mode without falsing. Thing is, when doing that, you won't hear the really faint, deep targets due to them being a subtle change in threshold.

But for faster and more coverage, autotune is great.

old relics do = trash. LOL I just have them around for show. BUT when you fill half a 5 gallon bucket with brass ie, swim buckles, shotgun shell bottoms and boat brass and wak away with 45.00. Its not hard at all to dump it in a special bucket and save it.

I am so glad i'm not the only one who does this !!!! I have 2-5 gal buckets. One for copper one for brass lol.

OBN,
When the schedule clears a little. (replied to the PM in more detail).

Therover and EZrider,
Good thoughts on more tests with various GB settings.

Scubadetector and all,
Not 5 gal buckets, but I too have bins for brass, copper and lead too. Couple of pounds of copper and a little brass; not enough right now for a trip to the recycler, but the lead bin is up to 12 lbs 2 oz. That would be about enough for the gas for the round trip to the recycler and a cup of coffee!
Cheers,
tvr
