Here it is in early 1900...[attachment 67825 ScannedImage-4.jpg] Errosion is a major problem here,as in the Cape. Notice the Deck on the left..Washed out in 2005...The people there are trying to plant Dune grass to help stop it.[attachment 67829 PlumIsland071.jpg] Rj

can enjoy them someday! Ron, your photos are amazing, and I just enjoy them so much! I doubt I will ever see them in my lifetime, only thru you! I appreciate you sharing such interesting places with us! :)

on the outer islands like Padre Island and Mustang Island for the same reason...to control the erosion. Unfortunately, snakes live in abundance in that vegetation and it is not wise to hike in those areas. I have always been of the opinion that the snakes should stay on the main land and leave the islands alone, but it is not to be. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

My folks use to live near Corpus Christi and we would go down there once or twice a month. We spent more time on Mustang Island because there were less people there. I always loved throwing a piece of bread up in the air and watching the Sea Gulls catch it. I remember the first time that I ventured back into the dunes and saw one of the largest rattlesnakes that I had ever seen. As I slowly backed away from it, I saw another one off to the side. Needless to say, I never ventured into the dunes again. There are lots of treasure tales about buried money on those islands, but you can not use a metal detector in most areas because of the laws. You are correct in that they are beautiful islands. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

we used to camp on the dunes on the cape. Now it's all protected and under restoration. Seems to be working.
