I need to help him with an avatar and getting registered...then he'll be ready to rock & roll.
He's been a wonderful friend of mine for many years. We lift weights together...hammer some pizza together...shoot guns together...now he's purchased an SE...so we'll be huntin' some together.
He piddled with my detectors 3 or 4 times...got hooked after finding his first wheatie..and has now bought his own.
We hit a little out of town pizza place once a week...then hunt the beat up park behind it for an hour or so.

He caught on very fast...moves very slow.. pays attention to high pitched, deep chirps...then investigates said chirps. Sound familiar?

On his very first hunt with his new SE...he popped out a deep Merc...and I'm not ashamed to tell you he found it behind me while I was using the E-trac.
He kept piddling over the target...circling...wiggling...staring...etc...and I finally yelled ..."Just dig it".
It was a tiny little window of a hit...but a brisk 3" to 4" wiggle really made it sing with a high warble.
I didn't get that high sweet warble with the E-Trac ...so I switched to the EX2 which I brought along...and there was the warble.
Needless to say i spent the rest of the hunt using the EX2.
Anyway Dave bent down to dig the plug.
The size of his arms being what it is...I was a little worried he'd snap my Lesche in half...so I told him to take it easy.

From nearly 8" down and on edge...out came a shiny little disc that I had just walked right over.

The look on his face when he saw silver was one I'll never forget. It was over at that point...and he's hooked for life. He started shaking...smiling...and just sat there and stared at it in the palm of his hand.
I was stoked for him and also glad I was able to share the moment with him.
How did I do??...well I truthfully spent most of my time helping Dave learn the sounds. Every time I got what I thought had a chance of being a deepie...I called him over and let him piddle and listen to the signal.
I also told him that each time he got a high pitched signal that he thought might be coin...to call me over so I could run my machine over it.
Trust me fellers'...during the 3 or 4 hunts... he called me over often...and I mean often. I'm glad he did though because he is now finding stuff like a seasoned explorer veteran. I have honestly never seen anyone catch on so quickly...so I'm glad I spent some valuable hours with him...teaching him what I could about sounds over actual in field targets.
I did manage a few wheaties and a few silvers...but nothing you fellers' haven't seen before...AND this post is about my friend Dave's first silver...so I'll just show the bracelet I found.
It came about 5 feet behind a swingset...so I'm sure some soccer mom was pushing her kid in the swings...when the bracelet flew off in the mud...darn her luck.

It was a silver hit...but as you can see is gold in color. Turns out it is a 14k overlay on top of solid sterling silver and cleaned up nicely.

It was a fun few hunts and a blast to get another person hooked on this wonderful hobby. The glimmer of silver did him in...and that's what it's all about.
Good luck on your next hunt.
