To anyone who has the Ace 250, I would like to ask for a favor. When you have your sensitivity turned up and you tap on the bottom of the coil with your finger...does your machine go off?? Mine does and then turning the sensitivity down about half or less it doesn't seem to do it. I was also having a problem with target ID...but that may be opererator error I talked to someone at Garrett yesterday and he told me that it was normal...but I have never heard of that before...If you all could take a second and test yours..that might make me feel better about my machine...if they react like mine, then maybe I need to get more aquainted with mine as far as the target ID goes.
Thank you

With the sensitivity all the way up my 250 does the same thing. Nothing to worry about.

Most of us have been running our sensitivity with 4 or 5 bars.It runs smooth and still gets very good depth. If you go higher it will false if you hit the ground plus the ID can jump a little. You don't want to scrub the ground just keep the coil within a inch of it.I still dig quarters 9 inches.Read the back posts on this forum and thetreasuredepot.net(Garrett Forum) there is a lot of good info people have posted on this great little machine.Happy hunting,Joe

From what I have heard in feedback nice machine for the bucks..Heck using previous Garrets have had the same problem over the years as I swing close to the ground and easy to give coil a good bump...

That's normal and attests to the sensitivity of the little yellow demon.

With it turned all the way up, it takes a pretty good pop to make it give a tone. I have used Garretts since 1982 and it seems they all don't take to well to dumping the coil. I did find a way to make it tolerate bumps a little more. I wrap the coil cable pretty tigh, leaving just enough slack so that coil can pivot without any stress where it enters the coil, and then tape the cable to the rod as close to the coil as possible. Alot of hunters do this but I also tape the cable to the rod where it enters the control box. I don't leave any slack here. The tape at the control box seemed to help quite a bit. Tim

Thank you to everone who helped out...it seems that it is normal...I think I should spend some more time with it and get to know it before I figure that something is wrong with the target ID. Now I just have to wait for the next thaw here in Michigan
