i found this cannonball two weeks ago, been in touch with three musems, they cant help me and want me to turn it in to the police, to destroy it and that would be a shame. does anyone have advice for me, and can you tell me if you think its civil war or earlier thanks bryan

You may want to check out the TREASURE DEPOT.
Scroll to the RELIC HUNTING forum and they may have advice for you.
They have a big following of relic hunters there.
In the pass I've read of similar situation as your experiencing.
Good luck .

hi bryan. i believe you have found a nice 6 pounder, but i'm not 100% sure. post this on the relichunting forum; there's quite a few experts on this over there. you can easily have the black powder removed, there's a few out there who do it professionally, making it harmless [unless you drop it on your foot] in the meantime, keep it in a tub of water and keep it away from heat. yeah - try posting it over there. thanks, and hh!

I read about a man a few years ago who used to deactivate cannonballs. Unfortunately, one summer day a cannonball he was working on exploded. The explosion killed him.

Definitely don't give it to the police to destroy it. This is history, not someones crappy homemade mail box bomb.

tab thats to funny how about taking it bowling STRIKE, every time lol, thanks for the help from you all thanks bryan

I think i remember seeing a post about someone who drilled out his own a drill press. He clamped the ball in place, put a rope on the handle that lowered the drill, got behind some SERIOUS cover, pulled on the rope carefully & drilled it out. I wouldnt do it myself unless l was EXTREMELY carefull (and did more research on how to do it right).

I'd have a proffessional do it for me.

Great find btw.... all I find are civil war bullets.
