Please Help WIth Xchange2 Problem....

I had to update my CTX manually yesterday because I am having a problem with Xchange2. I am sure the problem is on my end but I can't figure it out.

1) Xchange2 doesn't seem to want to connect to the internet on my computer. The update icon wouldn't appear.

2) I can't sign into my minelab account for the mapping feature. Each time I try to sign on it says "you must be connected to the internet." I have "diagnosed and repaired" my internet connection and this doesn't help. I have also turned off my pop-up blocker and that didn't work. I then lowered my internet security settings to the bare minimum and that didn't work either.

It seems that some setting on my computer is stopping Xchange2 from being able to access the internet.

Anyone have a possible idea how I can fix it? I am running Vista by the way.

Thank you very much for any help and in the meantime I will continue manually updating the CTX until I figure it out. I would just really like the mapping feature to work. -Marc

Can you go directly to Minelab's website and log on?... I am using Google chrome and had no issues..

Are you loading Xchange2 from the CD supplied? Are you on-line while loading Xchange2? Someone said they had problems loading from the Minelab site. The download file does not appear until your CTX is connected and turned on.

Also make sure you download the latest version from their website. They updated it to fix some issues.

Thanks for the replies guys.

- Yes, I loaded the program from the disk not from the minelab site
- I am connected to the internet but some kind of setting must be blocking Xchange from accessing the internet because it is the only program that thinks that I am not connected to the internet
- I can sign on to the Minelab site no problem, I just can't sign in when in the Exchange program because it doesn't recognize that I am connected to the internet

I figure it is some kind of anti-virus setting or some other blocker that stops the Exchange software from being able to access the internet.

I guess for now I will have to do updates manually, which is a piece of cake but I really wanted to use the mapping feature.

Thanks for the help and I'll let you know if/when I figure out the problem. -Marc

Marc,
What anti-virus suite are you running? Kasparov, McAfee, or Norton?

I really do wish Minelab had created a Mac compatible Exchange2 program. It was something I was REALLY hoping for. I use a Mac and only have a PC for stuff like this when I have to. I am not nearly as proficient with the PC as I am with the Mac so figuring this stuff out is incredibly tedious and annoying. I am sure I'll figure it out but until then I thank you all for your help. -Marc

Hey Marc, a few suggestions.........Remove any previous versions of XChange from your PC. There is some interaction between revisions that can create a false positive to your virus protection, causing it to stop the download. Second...ditch the CD and download it from Minelab's website. The link is above in "IMPORTANT NOTICE: CTX 3030 intermittent switching off software fix". As I said, your Norton may give you a false positive on some of the subscript as my Bitdefender didn't like the four digit coding. But when I downloaded from Minelab's website and accepted the file instead of letting my Bitdefender continue blocking it, all went well. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks Randy, I did everything you mentioned. I uninstalled all previous xchange software and everything that I had for the E-Trac. I re-loaded Xchange2 from the Minelab site. I also disabled every internet security program I could find. Nothin worked. I will bring it in to a shop on Monday and see if they can de-activate whatever program seems to be blocking me from using xchange. It really sucks but it is what it is. This is precisely why I went to Mac to begin with, they just make more sense to me. Come on Minelab and write a program for mac; what if I say PLEASE???

Thanks Randy for your help -Marc

Are you running a firewall if so it could be blocking outgoing and incoming packets. Just something to check

Marc: I share your frustration regarding us Mac users! I haven't had the problems you have had but really wish the software was Mac compatible! :(

Hi Mark,
I had the same type of problem with not being able to access Utube or Facebook on my computer after a system update.
Finally solved the problem by changing my search engine. I downloaded Firefox. Problem solved.
Don't know if this will solve your problem, but it might be worth a try. By the way Firefox is quite a good search engine.
Hope this helps.
