Please help with Vaquero vs. Updated Corte's...

My wife has recieved a replacement for her much loved and defunct old Silver Sabre Plus, a new, powerful, lightweight beast,
a Cibola...:smoke:

I am amazed at its sensitivity.
I bench tested it ( air test ) and it really whips my Corte's!!!
Especially when I "super tuned" the Cibola.

My Corte's is an earlier one ( ser. 124830; ) and I was about to send it to the Tesoro works in the States to have it up-dated,and a new anti-reflective face plate fitted.
This could set me back up to $200.00 Aust. by the time I pay freight and costs to and from Australia.

How would an up-graded Corte's rate against the Vaquero ???

I don't have an issue with not having a TID screen;
my wife won't have a TID detector ~ so the Cibola was perfect for her.
As she says she finds herself studying the display on my Corte's when she has used it, instead of just "diggin' the beeps ".

I really can say that on my last days coin-shooting at the beach, I didn't spend much time "reading the screen", and I could be quite happy screenless...
Any body help me out there!

Regards,
HH

than the Cortes. The Tejon, Vaquero, and Cibola are new platform detectors. The Cortes is built on the uMax platform and never will the two meet.

The upgrades to the Cortes were about cosmetic and maybe slowing down the retune speed. They can't make it match the new platform detectors.

Keep in mind there is a frequency difference too.

I didnt get the screen changed, when I sent my Cortes in for a tune up. I didnt feel it was worth the 25 or 35 dollars it would cost. The retune was still too fast for my tastes. If your happy with it now, those little changes wont make it that much better. Save your money. :)

Thanks Rentasquid,
I appreciate you responding, I'll save my dough!!!

I like my Corte's,
but my wifes Cibola's performance just blew me away, one HOT little machine... :hot:

I would appreciate an adjustable GB ~ TID is not an issue; performance is ~
so Vaquero  keeps looming in my mind.

Thanks again,

Snowy, oh ~ and wife :twodetecting:

Mike, thank you for the info,
I am REALLY impressed with what I saw of the little power house Cibola,I feel that I am on a committed to getting into a Vaquero now !!!
I really love my Corte's, and I realise that depth isn't everything.
But that little Cibola had such an impact on me in other ways as well, light weight, feels like an extension of my arm.
The audio suits my hearing ( high tone mod )just one 9 volt battery...
I have read great things about the Vaquero on the forums, in short I am happily commited to a change to a Vaquero... :super:

Thanks again Mike.

The more I used my Cortes, the less that I looked at the screen. At first, I found myself tied to the display...should I dig it, or shouldnt I? One rainy morning, I wanted to keep hunting, so I tied a plastic bag over the housing, and found that my hunting enjoyment went up exponentially! So, I understand when you say TID isnt an issue. It became less so to me. Although, I occasionally get that TID itch. :)

Yep Rentasquid,
at the times when you DO check the TID readout, this info is often the deciding factor in deciding whether to dig ~ or not to dig...

TDI screens are an extreemly useful tool, sort of like the dashboard instruments in an auto, we don't study them all the time.
But if we need to know more about what's going on, we can check them out.

right...don't spend the money on updating the Cortes, spend it on a new Vaquero... I love both the Vaquero and the Cibola, but the Cibola won't work well here because of falsing on a lot of hot rocks.. Vaquero is very similiar but I think the manual ground balance gives it a little edge..... Think about trying the 5.75 coil, it is one the best coils that Tesoro has produced... Best to you DownUnder, enjoy summer, Richardntn

Thanks Richardntn, been a hot summer so far 104 deg F tomorrow, bush fires all over the state of Victoria, :hot: not good...
