My friend Troy brought over some of his buttons he has dug up and asked me if I could try and find out some info on some of them. After doing some internet research I could not find exact type buttons for anyone of them. Can you guys help please. I'm real curious about the South Carolina one. Could be a confederate civil war button. Cool.. Thanks, Jim

Please tell Troy to stop by house first next time and pick up the $10 I'd give him for the buttons. :)

Just kidding, of course.

Good news and bad news.

The eagle R appears to be an 1850s Horstmann product that would be considered war-period.

The SC, I'm afraid, is postwar with what looks like a faintly stamped backmark indicative of early 1900s buttons. I've dug a few like this myself being from South Carolina. Wish I had better news. The front looks like an Albert's SC 28, or a "Citadel" College button.

The Pa. staff button appears to be a period backmark, the small impressed letters of the pre-1865 period.

Two out of three, though. Very nice buttons. Tell Troy congrats!

Richard
