Can anybody out there tell me the website that shows how to convert a multimeter into a ID meter for the Sovereign. ...I could only fined 1 website but it had a dead-end link to it..Also if anybody can give me any info about the crystal mod for the Sovereign or at least what crystal freq that seems to work best. Thanks in advance Tom

This is why I can to this forum for help....I have been to this website....It has broken links for the DIY meter. Also this site does not mention anything about the crystal mode I asked about.. Would somebody here have this info on a PDF file they could send me..Thanks

What exactly do you mean by the crystal mod? That is a new one to me. I just tried the meter page and it did not work for me either. I know that it use to work. I have it saved. I will try and get it for you.

Hey Thanks Scott B. I appreciate the help....The crystal mod I am talking about I heard a little about years ago. If I remember right the microprocessor speed was controlled by a 5 Mhz (I think) crystal..By changing the crystal to a different value (unsure which value) the processor speed would be increased..Supposedly the faster microprocessor speed had some benefit, but I cannot for the life me remember what that benefit was.. I took my sovereign apart last week and found the crystal but forgot to write down what freq it had on it..If I find out more info about this mod I'll pass it on to you. Thanks again Tom

I remember reading about the Crystal changing mentioned some years back and what it was I beleive for those Sovereigns made for other country's that have 50 cycles for their power and not the 60 cycles like we have here in the USA and had to do with interference and wonder if that is not what is happening on the new GT with the freq switch. For me the freq 2 works the best like the older XS series Sovereign and when we hunt next to another Sovereign or electrical interference we can go to freq 1 on the GT with no interference. I dont feel you would get better performance as I thought someone had tried it and then switched back as he found it didnt work as good.

That modification was to deal with interference, think it was Navy transmissions to submarines, that suddenly started up 10/12 or so years back in the U.K.. There was also a U.S. dealer who was offering a performance modification based round a crystal change. Can't for the life of me think who it was.
Pulsar in the U.K. did a crystal change claiming faster response and more depth. Cost

Thanks for all the help...Very much appreciated...Now if I can find the plans to turn a multimeter into a ID meter I'll be all set

...try the Wayback Machine.

The following URL will take you to the last archived version of the meter project:
