My brother and I started metal detecting an old home place last week that dates back to an army major from the civil war. We only had a couple of hours to start before dark. The location was in a woods about half a mile from the nearest county road. It's a large area with a water well, large cistern, huge storm cellar, and other foundations. Since this property was used for several generations of families we have only scratched the surface. To the best of our knowledge only occasional deer hunters have ever been here before. The case in the first two pictures are my question. What the heck is this item? I've ruled out a cigarette case because it's to thin. Maybe a money case? It is made of brass like the broach and has a hinge at one end. Any guesses or help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve
