We found this article whilst detecting on a beach in southport,U.K.

we have found out by Jewllers, that it is BRASS and has a small stamp either, MANUFACTURERS or some kind of number. however it is UNREADABLE. the jewellers seemed excited about the artifact, although it not being jewellry.

MAYBE MARITIME INSTRUMENT COMPONANT.....possibly a pointer.

ANYBODY WITH ANY IDEAS?????????? PLEASE HELP.

yes only one hole, in the flat tail end. the centre hole appears to be purposly casted into an uneven sized elipse, .

Looks like a trigger to me as well does a size comparison would help identify, Grant

CAROLINA PHIL, thankyou for the link, very interesting, but i have noticed that more often than not a cleat has 2 holes either side of it to feep it securly screwed to whatever it may be fixed to, and has 2 ends in which line can be securely wrapped around, but i will search and look at more cleats, who knows????? very frustrating!.
