Hi All,

As a long time member and poster to this forum, I'm going to ask a question that may seem strange.

I have owned the original Explorer, and the Sovereign. I want to jump back in and buy another of each.

I mostly do allot of school and park hunting. However, I do some hunting of old farm houses, ghost towns.

Heres my question: Should I up grade to the Explorer II or should I just find someone selling an older original Explorer?

On the issue of the Sov, I had an XS, and loved it. Should I up grade to the GT? Or, again should I just buy an used XS?

The reason I got rid of the two unit's that I had was simply medical. I had busted up my left arm several years ago and I thought at the time that I needed to go to a light weight detector. I'm now strong enough to Handel the heavier gear.

Than the Explorer XS will be fine as the performance is close to one another and with the XS II you have dual digital plus the threshold is more adjustable. Now on the Sovereign a good used XS or XS 2 if you can buy at a very reasonable price would be OK to go with as they do a great job. With the GT you can switch between silent search or a threshold which may come in handy at some sites. It also has track if you want to run all metal which I never do as I like the tones and feel the depth is better for me. If you don't run all metal this feature will do you no good. It also has a iron mask switch to turn it on or off, but I leave it on all the time like the XS and the XS2 are too, so that feature too don't do me any good. Now what I like is the new straight shaft it is mounted on as it seem to balance better plus I feel the GT is a little more sensitive and found that it seem to ID deeper than the XS did. What I mean by this is I have always been able to get the correct ID on the GT no matter how deep it is while the XS and the XS 2 I notice when the targets were deep the tones and numbers on the meter were trying to climb, but couldn't quite make it. I have not notice this with the GT yet, but seen where some iron will fool me more then the older Sovereigns, so I feel it is a bit more sensitive.
If you want to save money or it is tight then a used XS in the Explorer or the Sovereign will do you good, but the XS II and the GT have a few more features that has helped many.
