Playing with ID filter ...3 more Eagle buttons

Hit the test garden and adjusted ID and Gain. Gain 56 and ID at 48...these setting knocked out all but my big iron and I hit all good targets in my 6" depth row. Lower sounding tone but noticeable as a good target.

Went back to the thickest trashy spot where I have been finding the buttons and pulled in three more eagles, two of them eagle ''I''. Between the settings a no moisture I think it really helped. One button was at an angle touching the top off the plug. Nails once again with other bits where found with the pointer, Enjoying how it finds good in with so much bad. Also pulled in a pistol bullet and three more brass pc's.

Hope the info helps some folks out. HH

GL and HH

Sprayed weed killer to open up some area over this way.

Outstanding finds 3ringer! Where do you live and hunt? I'll be your hunting partner, TOMORROW! I'll bring my CoRe and we can teach/learn from each other!

Did the buttons give a visual TID number, since it has been drier?

Or was it just the rounded nice sounds that made you take notice? 3 tone or 2 tone where you using?

I wanna get out relic hunting tomorrow or Sunday!

Congrats on the buttons buddy! I really like finding buttons, almost as much as finding gold and old silver!

3tone mainly. The numbers are jumping but when you hear that good tone and see that 65-67 coming into play dig it. I went to a diff. place yesterday and pulled out a round ball and a button. The button locked on 67 in all direction with no trash...turned out to be a USAAF wings and prop button though. Never know what your going to find I guess

Very well done!!!! I really am impressed with my Racer. For me, it's likely the best relic machine that I have used. Love to find those buttons. I am glad when anybody saves Civil War buttons from being doomed to dissolving in the earth. They need to be found and showed to people. It really makes history more tangible. Congrats on your finds!!!!

Dude, I WANT TO HUNT WITH YOU to find some buttons. I don't understand the areas that I hunt, as we LITERALLY find 1 button for every 100 bullets or pieces of camp lead.

Did you use the 5" coil for these finds at these settings?

Cal, I did use the 5" for all but a few buttons over the past month. I did try the stock coil but soon changed back over. I think after a few frost this fall...when folks can get back to the woods or better relic sites (IMHO) we are going to see more good finds with the racer. Many good units out there but for me the racer / small coil / heavy trash is working out fine.

Bubba if your pulling drip lead and bullets I bet those buttons are tucked in there some where lol. I enjoy a drop as much as buttons...tells ya your in the right AO.

I think you are right. But where ? Lol. My hunting buddies and I are scratching our heads wondering where they are! The place where we hunt only had a 2-3 day battle. I know the odds of finding lots where we hunt is a misnomer. Hunted hard by U.S. and others. Some days we do really well and find 1 relic per hour avg. other days not so good. There is a great spot that produced quite a bit, but now it's under the Civil War Trust on its way to being battlefield property.

But it is fun telling the curator what we find and where. Sometimes it even changes what they thought they knew about the battle. I love this history finding stuff !

I agree. I have several sites lined up to hunt this fall & winter when the tall grasses die down, and the rattlers go to sleep...more the grass issue, but not crazy about running into rattlers either, already ran into one last month and it's not even summer yet :)

Bubba you probably know this already but I've found it to help on sites I hunt.

Look behind the battle lines for water...creek, stream whatever. Work those water edges. Men brought back to the rear due to wounds where taken to locations like this if available for Doc. If no water look for a roll in the land that would put them out of the way. Most of my uniform finds have came from these locations where as you will get a lot of everything out where they had a small or larger fight. Just my two cents but I hope it puts ya on something.

OHMYGOSH, I honestly have never thought like this. Wow. Almost a "duh" moment there. Makes total sense. And come to think of it NOW...the places where we have actually found these BUTTONS are close to these lower areas of land and by old creek beds, that are often dried up.

Thank you 3RINGER !

I would also assume that the dry creek beds would be full of trash. Maybe soooooooo, but there might be some goodies hiding in and around those creeks as well.

Makes me wanna go back RIGHT NOW as it is cooler than normal and good hunting weather, but work takes precedence this week :-(
