Platinum

How would I know if a ring is Platinum?
What does Platinum look like (silver?) and what is
stamped on the inside?

Pt or plat are typical hallmark. Can be 95Plat or several variations. It is heavier than gold and has nearly twice the melt temp. It is noble so NO rust or tarnish, though if it is alloyed it can mix traits of other metal. Not much is better than gold so good luck!

Yep, Plat (PT) sounds just like gold, and is worth a little more than gold right now...also keep your eye out for Palladium, its marked "PD" and is in the 600's per oz I think..plat does look like silver, but so does stainless steel and they sound like gold or plat too...if its not marked its probably stainless steel, if you heat it up with a propane torch and it does not discolor, it could be Plat...SS will discolor. If its nots marked its most likely some sort of junk..now they are even making class rings out of a chrome nickel amalgam called "lustrium" which is junk, and looks like silver or something.....lots of junk rings out there, but when you get the real deal, its all worth it! Good Luck and let us know.

The platinum ring i found had pt 950 marked inside, as i understand it 1000 is pure platinum. When i pulled it out of the ground i thought it was silver but it read 33 on the F5 and never wavered a constant 33 no matter which way i moved across the target.

This is a beautiful ring with three 1/4 cwt diamonds.

Well, I guess I got a stainless steel ring. It kinda looks like
silver but no stamp on the inside and it doesn't have the shine
that silver has. There are some decay marks on it as well.
I've found three pieces of good silver lately but no gold.
