A friend of mine lost a platinum wedding band in a lake 4 years ago and I told him I would help.. I have zero experience with platinum. Would you please let me know what numbers to look for?
Thanks much and HH.

Art, or anyone. Do platinum bands have common internal stampings or marks ? I've tossed some that I thought were stainless, and maybe they were, dunno.

From my little experience with finding platinum they can run from foil through nickels and tabs. Maybe higher if its a honker. HH jim tn

Plat sounds exactly like gold for a ring of the same weight...but then again so do Stainless Steel rings...PLAT is always marked, there are other easy ways of telling if something is Plat or Stainless...on to your quest...

If you can find out how large or heavy your friends ring was, you can sort of think along those numbers...If he's got big fingers, and it was a wide heavy ring in the +10gr realm...it will hit 61 by dang! Diggin-it did a good video a while back...good Luck!

I found lost a platinum wedding ring this summer for a neighbor this summer...he lost it about 4 years ago also. It was off a nearby dock in sand/gravel and in about 3-4' of water. Found it about 4" under the sand. Numbers? Probably 51-60...but the important thing was the overall sound...I repeat...the overall sound; using the numbers as a guide only. Obviously numbers in the 30s or higher than the 70s would be a low probability, but use the overall low sounds. You might get some pull-tabs,but, there ya go.

Thanks ArtNH, Mud, Ajaj. I'll dig those tabs just in case! I'll post it for sure if I find it. This lake is not that big but even so, the sand does shift with heavy surface action. I dug a quarter yesterday that took six large scoops to find. It had to be deeper than a foot!

For platinum, absolutely dig those pull-tabs! Best of luck.
