Platinum setting

I lost my platinum wedding ring day before yesterday. I bought a Bounty Hunter Prospector detector to try and find it. I have never used a metal detector and got quite frustrated with how to operate it. I put a platinum earring on the ground and it detector would "sometimes" beep and other times just pass directly over it without so much as a whimper. A sterling silver ring would get a loud beep every time. What setting do I use? Disc? All Metals? Sensitivity medium, high? The instruction book does not mention platinum. Does this mean that it will not detect platinum?

I think the ring came off in a horse accident so am searching through sand, small rock, and debris and keeping the disk low to the ground.

Any advise?

Thanks,
Jane

I would use all metal and turn down the discrimination. Discrimination eliminates certain metals and you want to detect all.

Thanks Mark. Will give it a try. Am heading to WA next week (from NM) for the coming of a new grandbaby! Beautiful state.

use all metal as stated and look where you least expect to find it as it may have took a bounce or a roll.if ya know any others in area that md ask them to help
