Platinum Rings

DFXer

New member
Beach hunters,
Where do platinum rings show up on an SE in Smartfind and Digital display?

Thanks,
Paul

You really may not want to hear the answer to that question if you want to sleep. I have not actually tested a platinum ring, but based on the conductivity values it is not good. It will read as iron. I could be wrong, but someone may respond to confirm. The signal the detector provides is based on the size and content (conductivity) of the target. Given a piece of iron and platinum of the same size, they will read nearly identical.

Here are the electrical condictivity values for pure metals:
Silver- 63.0 x 10[sup]6[/sup] S.m[sup]-1[/sup]
Copper- 59.6
Gold- 45.2
Aluminum- 37.8
Zinc- 16.6
Nickel- 14.3
Iron- 9.93
Platinum- 9.66

[size=medium]By the same as iron I mean on the conductivity scale. A platinum ring will likely read in the foil range (bottom center) on the smartfind screen. Still my disclaimer stands. We will have to wait for someone with the facts.

P.S. I have not learned how to edit my posts yet. [/size]

I can't find it after searching but in response to a similar question before I took a reading on a platinum coin and it read high on the conductivity scale. How that changes in ring form, I don't know.

This platinum ring (12 grams) rang up as 08 - 18 in wet sand.
It was found on the maiden hunt of my new WOT coil.
It made me VERY happy!
