Planting for the future

I have been saving my clad pocket change for a while now and decided to plant/bury some money for a future hunt by my grandson who is about 3 1/2 right now.
He has no Idea that he is going to become a detectorist one day. One day when he gets older if he shows interest it will be fun to watch him hunt.
I buried a small cache for him to find one day in the future when he is about 6 - 8 yrs old maybe.
I put over 100.00 in change plus, 2 silver dollars, 1 clad dollar, 3 of the gold colored dollar coins, a 2 dollar bill, a 20.00 dollar bill, my old class ring and a coin from England
into some 3" PVC pipe about 8" deep in the yard.
I plan to plant coins every where on 3 acres for him to find and that should get him excited enough to keep hunting.
Knowing my luck the first thing he will find will be the cache.
When my mother heard what I was going to do she said, "Now there's a Grandpaw that knows how to keep the Grandson busy"!
Anyway, if it works out as planned it should be fun to watch him.

Sounds like a GREAT grandpa to me ......
ANd if you have any left over clad

I say, well played sir. Well played.

Im reminded of the line, "The best laid plans of mice and men, often go awry".

I found that there was little I could do to keep my kids truly interested in detecting. Oh, they would go, since they enjoyed time with their dad. But the lure of the swingset, a spinning sprinkler or some mangy dog passing by was more than they could stand.
The thrill I find in detecting wasnt often theirs, to put it flatly. It is a normal part of our makeup, that the father (or grandfather) wants the child to be like him - when odds are against it.

Were it me, I'd dig it up and use the money in some other, profitable way that might otherwise benefit the child.
Besides the way things are going, it may not be worth what it is now. Odds are against that too, in fact.

Awesome!

I think that's a great thing to do. Hope all your grandchildren are interested in metal detecting.
