plans change from Italy to Greece...

Found out today my plans are changed and they are sending me to the Island of Corfu Greece. Does anyone know anything about the hunting in Greece I am supposed to have 3 free days when I get there. Any info would be very helpful. Thanx for the info I received from every body earlier about Italy.

I never hunted there but I have been there twice. The place is full of history and there must be lots of gold lost there because the beaches are always packed. Beautiful place! I envy you although both times I was there was the summer. I would find out about the laws but the place was pretty laid back when I was there. Real nice beaches.:beers:

i was 3 times in greece great beaches i'm sure, if it's legal you gonna have a fun.

I just received an e-mail from the Ministry of Culture in Athens, Greece. It is illegal to bring into the country or own or use a metal detector in Greece unless it is first registered and you receive a permit through the Ministry Of Culture. Too short of time and too much red tape for that to happen. This seems strange to have a manufacturer of detectors there in Athens (Viking Detectors)

U r right!!! You need a licence to own a metal detector here in Greece, and it needs time to get it (around a month)!
In addition, if you'd like to go out for hunting with this, you need an extra licence of exploring the area you like. This is more dificult to get it as they will send people from goverment to watch if you'll find anything so to take the taxis (over 50%)
On the other hand, here in Greece everything is forbiten and the same time everything is allowed (If you know what i mean).

The "problem" is because Greece is full of history as you already said. If you dig anywhere even by hands, you will find something for sure. And especially after the second world war, people were coming here with detectors and leaving with cases full of gold. Especially Germans and talians! Thats the why Greek laws are very protective about this matter.
I hope i helped a bit to understand what happens here about.

as much as I would like to hunt there I will not have a lot of free time (work comes first), so I will enjoy the history and the island by shopping for my family and sight seeing.

Thats the best thing to do! Corfu has many castles and interesting sites to visit. The only problem is that after Madona's visit, the island became more touristic and more noisy.
Good vacations

Yannis :)
