Planning my first hunt with my new V3i next week end

Planning my first trip out with my New V3i Next week end. Its to my favorite South Carolina beach. Are there any programs or suggestions you have for this hunt? I am not new to detecting, but I am new to this machine. Thanks in advance ! Sonny

We have said many times that for new users with the V3i, use the programs that come with the V. The Salt Beach program is a very good one to use on the salt beaches and a concentric coil seems to work better like the 950 or 12" if you have one. Don't worry about custom programs for the first 100 hours, just hunt, have fun and get to know your V and learn the basics.

So polar plot vs size in expert menu wouldn't be something of value in the first one hundred hours? I've seen some very helpful videos on youtube can anyone suggest anymore?

Some people use it but I don't use the Analyze at all. On a beach you want to dig it all anyway, segmented jewelry will look like junk on the polar plot and you sure don't want to pass up necklaces and bracelets.

Things still have not changed as far as audio and VDI's being where almost all the info is. (Keeping it all simple and uncluttered is the best for learning anything.) Several people here (and many more within the detecting community) had the prototype machines before this new machine officially came out. Now it's been going into the third year since this initial period plus one minor revision and one major upgrade. What is coming out of the box now is as truly close to turn on and go as possible. It took a lot of "crunching down" to get there and it is one smooth detector having a big percentage of it's capabilities "just under" the ON button.

Fast forward two years. People have learned the V3i in the field "for their use" and are way past having the need to analyze the machine as a whole. We all can look back and ask ourselves "OK......knowing the machine now, which stuff was most important in being where I am now? It is still with the basics (and refinements to them) this machine gives you. Starting with these things will have you learning the rest.........best.

About that "first hundred hours". Most of that time should be learning the adjustments that are "basic" to the signal going out and coming back to you (in the most stable and useable way) with audio and VDI's getting the lions share of your attention. To cut to the chase is why we are here and letting you know "what is important".....is much better done with one or two sources at first. (Using the whole net at first.... too much to filter.) It will be waiting there for you! (Wax on,Wax off.)

Awesome post Scott.........:clapping:

Thanks

Thanks everyone.................Can't wait to useit, hard to believe its as easy as turn on and go ! Safe to say in the wet sand use salt compensate and the dry sand use coin and jewelry . Thanks again !!!

I am pretty sure salt compensate is already turned on for you in the Salt Beach program and you could go to C&J in dry sand if you want but I think the Salt Beach program will work almost as good in dry sand too, you just might lose some sensitivity on targets near 0 VDI where the V ground balances in salt.

The salt compensate as well as salt soil are are in the beach program. As mentioned earlier use a concentric coil and you are ready to go.
