Tony,
Glad you got out anyhow and found some stuff to boot! I dont want to disappoint you but it really wasnt such a bad weekend here. Weather didnt bother us a bit. A litle cold but too bad.
Sorry I dont have pictures to back all the stuff below up. We didnt bother to put it all in a pile and take pictures. We all did about equal on Sunday but hunting in an area overloaded with Iron on Saturday I didnt do good at all. Out of all the great stuff below I only pulled out a few of the colonial flat buttons and misc, brass items.
We hit the colonial site on Saturday and between 3 of us we recovered:
- about 25 various colonial buttons
-riflemans buckle hook (the one that holds the knap sack hook)
-a Virginia Half Cent in fair condition the dates not readable but the back is nice (1783 the only year they made them)
-2 Large cents (1816 and 1857 I think)
-1 indian head
-Some kind of brass tool. look too large to be a gun tool bt looks like one
-Womens sash buckle
-A seal used for stamping wax on a letter, its small has a hook to run a string though I guess. Has some kind of figured carved into blue stone. This piece kind of looks like something off a charm bracelet.
-lots of misc. brass junk
- LOTS of iron junk and few more modern coins
I was using my C$, one guy had a CZ7A, and I hate to say it but the guy who really cleaned up used a Minelab Explorer. The place is loaded with Iron. I really didnt have a good day here. I really need more time with the machine in iron.
On Sunday we hit the battlefield area I was going to take you to and the wind was fierce but it really didnt bother us at all in the woods.
We found maybe 25 bullets between 3 of us, fired CS and dropped 3 ringers. I got a Sharps bullet with the skin still attached to it.
Call me when you want to come up.
Bob
