pixie pickings

well, it was a nice day to be in the water even though there is nothing of value to show for it. One day the pixies favor you with some fine pickings and the next day they put this in your scoop.

I found this stuff in my scoop as well on the south shore of Long Island N.Y. What is it and where does it come from?

We find those on beaches with fire pits. I think they're pieces of melted cans, etc. thrown on the fire. Look closely, though, once in a while you find a filling from a tooth!

Yup, we find 'em in California too near the fire pits. I think they are aluminum. I like 'em and have started a collection. - Jim

This has been a hotly contested subject on these boards and others, but I'll tell you what I believe it is. People drink beer on the beach and throw the cans into the fire, It melts into these globs and the ebb and flow of the tides carries some out into the search areas. That's my take and I'm stickin' to it!

i also believe that they are cans that were melted in a beach fire because of their weight.
at least they aren't bobby pins!
