Pith Hold and Long Response- water and beach

I have owned my CTX 3030 for a about a year. I don't do much inland hunting, mainly beach and water. I have only been using Normal response and just started playing around with Long and Pitch Hold.
What are your thoughts on using long Response in the surf?
What are the benefits of using Long or Pitch hold on the wet sand, and under what conditions do you use them ie trashy or clean beaches?

At the beach, in the wet sand, I use 'long'. My reasoning is the ocean waves are making a lot of noise and a longer 'good' sound helps me pick out deeper good targets easier.
