i have been detecting an area near the beach where live in oregon . i had done some research on a pirates chest that is supposed to be in the area . after several trips and several batt,s i found 1 coin a possible Qing Dynasty chinese coin 1644 -1912 .after that i went back and found 4 different coins . one us cent 1820s-1830s . one brittish penny early 1800s.one french 10 centimes napoleon the 3rd 1853.and one possible netherlands William the 3rd 1849-1890s.later on i took my kids to the beach , we where in the area when i found a bronze medallion possible 1800s .yesterday i was back and found one Buenos Aires 1 decimo 1822-1823.all these coins have been no more than 60 feet apart .all are from different countrys.all from the same era.( i am detecting with an MXT with an eclipse 950 coil ).most of these coins are very baddly worn .im going to keep going back ,maybe i will find every piece to this puzzle one piece at a :detecting:time .

ps. have also been doing some prospecting and have come up with some GOLD.

(pics of medallion on a later date ).:detecting:

hi jog, you've made some nice old coin finds. the ocean is hard on coins of every type. it looks like an average dating of around the 1850's era with your found coins. it seems more like you have found coins washed up from a nearby wreck - they've been in the water a long time. it would do you well to research the maritime records for your area - you can access them online. they say the best time to hunt a beach is after a good storm.

i'm not a beachhunter jog, but i do take interest in it. i remember years ago reading about a supposed buried pirate's chest on the southern oregon coastline. since i'm over 2,000 miles away, i didn't pay much attention to it at the time. i don't think the dates on your coins match the time frame of when the pirate's chest was supposedly buried.
yes, check the maritime records for your area, and center your research around the latest legible date on your coins... the mid 1850's. at least you have a definite time frame to research. i'm almost sure you can come up with a wealth of info from the maritime records. it really looks like your're finding shipwreck coins in your quest for the treasure chest. it's also possible the chest was in the ocean the whole time and has now broken up. good luck, and thanks for posting. hh,

You may have found a dock area for a trading post. I think there was lots of beaver hides and such being traded around that era. Don't believe it gets you to the pirate era. Whatever the case, it's a great place to detect. Nice spot. It's hard to find coins that old in the western region of the US. Keep at it!

sorry about the buenos aires coin . it was late and i was asleep at the wheel .here is the other half of the coin .

Great finds, Jog! BTW, since you know how to find Gold, just a reminder to not use too
much disc. past nickel (and tabs) for any Gold coins that might be there!
Better yet, just use all metal in that zone!
Continued good luck!:clapping:
