Completely new to metal detecting...... a friend of mine gave me his Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 ..........I was just wondering if this is a capable metal detector for the beach?........ and how hard is it to use? it sounds off with a lot of Bells, whistles, buzzes & clicks when I turn it on........ it never seems to really settle down....., it's been sitting up in his garage for years unused......... Don't know how to tell if it's ok Many thanks for advice

Have you tried looking up the info for this great little detector on FIRST TEXAS web site they will give you a lot of info on how to use and set up this unit , I have had mine now for about 14 years without a problem and have found targets at 3 feet deep in all metal mode , it was a smashed Cadillac hub cap at 3 feet deep , I for one was extremely surprised , this is pretty much all the detector you will ever need ..

Hi JMR, You may want to try a couple of things if the detector has been sitting unused. Put in fresh alkaline batteries, unplug and re-plug the coil connector several times to be certain the connector pins are making good contact, reduce the sensitivity and test the unit out side away from any electrical power lines. Hope this helps. Bill

THX. Seems to be working it's just that I really don't know how to use it very well. I live close to the beach and I don't think this is a good beach detector except in all metal mode. Spent about 5 hours with it on the beach..... All I found were 3 rusty tent stakes, a small piece of a beer can, 2 rusty screws and a nail.
