Searched local school playground (sand tot lot) with my Pioneer 505, showed up an e track, and was rewarded with an ice cream cone, lol (plastic surface eye find). No, I am not in any way suggesting that the 505 is better than an e track. It was a case of an inexperienced user not knowing how to use his detector. Took me about two hours to cover the tot lot and just as I was loading up to leave this fellow drove up and informed me that I would not find anything as he had already cleaned it out with his e track and made a smart remark about my inferior detector. I informed him I was just leaving and knew I had been searching behind someone but had managed to find some good items. Would he like to see what he had missed? His first comment as I started laying out my finds, including trash, on the tailgate of my truck was that he did not have to dig all that trash and if I had a better detector I would not either. I replied that my detector had discrimination capabilities as well as notch discrimination but I preferred to only use enough discrimination to eliminate small iron such as paper clips, bobby pins and small nails, so as not to miss any small gold items. I was informed that with his e track he could eliminate all the trash items I had been digging and still not miss any gold. I had found a sterling silver chain with two charms and three gold items, a 10K ring, a 10K charm and a 14K earring with pearls. I did not lay them out till last as I keep those type items in a separate plastic container in a different pouch pocket. He refused to believe I had found them where he had already searched and claimed I had brought them with me. I suggested he get his e track out of his truck, set it like he normally does, and see if it would detect all of the items I had found. He had no trouble with the sterling silver chain but could not detect any of the gold items after I had reburied them about two inches deep. After adjusting his discrimination settings he was easily able to pick them up. He then acknowledged that he was wrong about the discrimination capabilities of his e track but had been relying on what he had been told by the large detector distributor in Florida where he bought on line. He had been learning to use it on his own by reading and watching videos. I suggested he check out findmall, as the e track forum would offer a lot of expertise.
