Has anyone used their 505 at the beach and if so how did it do ?

I have not at a beach but have in wet black sand at a ball park in my area and it was very taxing! The 505 was not meant to be used on a wet salt water beach. It will do fine in the dry sand areas. This will give you the best chance for success in the wet sand... All metal and do a ground grab. Switch to disc and turn up you disc dial until you get a minimum amount of chatter when you sweep the coil. What you are attempting to do is to discriminate out the salt mineral which the detector is reading as a metal. You will still get falsing but it should be distinguishable from a good target when checking from different angles. It can be done but it is certainly not for everybody and can get on your nerves real quick. I managed to get a quarter and a penny when I did this at the ball park that day but it really wasn't worth it. Depth was decreased to maybe 3 inches. Hope this helps you out.

I might be going to Panama City Fl. and was hoping to detect on the beach. Any body ever hunted there?
