Pioneer 202 Help

RICK IN KY

Active member
I have a B H Pioneer 202 that I use as a backup and as a Loaner and the other day I got it out and plugged the headphones in and it quit working.I never used headphones with this detector before so this was the first time.I unplugged the headphones and nothing,When you turn it on you can here the audio just alittle then it goes away, you think it shorted out something or is it the headphone jack that is bad,I tried several different headphones to make sure it wasn't that.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

Just to clarify, it doesn't work now with either headphones or the speaker? Have you tried the headphones on something else to make sure they're not bad?

The jack in the detector has a little lever switch that disconnects the speaker when phones are plugged in. It should reconnect automatically, but may have failed, or it's just dirty and corroded from non-use. Sometimes just inserting the plhone plug multiple times may free it up or get it to connect. Otherwise, it probably needs to be opened up and checked out.

It's also possible a short in the phones or some odd glitch caused a parts failure in the audio section. Too many variables at this point to say.

Hey Ed,Thanks for the reply post, the detector worked fine until I plugged the headphones in,and the headphones work just fine on my other detectors so its not the phones,im thinking the headphone jack went bad,its not a expensive detector so I don't want to put much money in it.
Thought it may be a simple fix,but looks like its not.
Thanks

Hi Rick,
Glad to help if I can. Try one more thing for me. I'm not clear if all audio quit after first trying the 'phones. Did it ever work at all through the phones? Try them again one more time to see if you get any audio that way or not.

It may still be a "simple" fix if it's a jack/plug problem. How to proceed might depend on if it's still under warranty. If still warrantied, I'd contact BH and get an RMA. They might only need the brainbox itself with no shaft or coil, so it would be a small package to pay shipping on. They have a good reputation of treating their customers right.

If it's out of warranty, BH may still be able to help. Me, I tinker a lot, so I'd open it up and check out the jack myself. If that seems daunting to you, maybe ask a friend who does soldering or basic electronics.

Barring all of that, I would have a look at it. If you want to ship the brainbox here, I'll check it out for you.

It looks like it's time to get another back up detector. The Ace 250 is only $212.00
and has features the Pioneer does not have along with VCO ppinpointing. OR You
could go with the Bounty H Platinum, which is like the Delta 4000 by Teknetics.
Good luck.

I will let someone else tinker with it,the detector worked fine untill I plugged the headphones in.
Thanks
Rick
