I thought I would share this with you all. I agreed to go on a trip with a friend who was doing out of town business. I detected all around town and did ok. Later that night I was thinking of all the travelers who had lost the items I found that day. I started thinking about all the places that someone could loose something while traveling. I wondered how many rings had gone down the toilet or the sink. I thought it would be cool to recover all those rings without having to go into a sewer. I then thought how many people who had lost rings down the motel sink and never opened the trap under the sink. I took my pinpointer and tested the plastic trap under the sink. Sure enough there was a target in the sink. It was a small silver and saphire ear ring. It isnt worth much but I will check the trap in every motel room I stay in. there might be something in your homes sink trap also. Check and let me know what you find, CODY

Now thats what i call thinking outside the box!
Congrats!

Great idea, I just returned from a 2 night business trip going again next week, guess I'll to bring the pinpointer with me. I have a good friend that owns a self serve car wash, has 8 large vacs for interior cleaning. He started checking the vacuums for any jewelery that may have been sucked up from under car seats, he has found several gold rings, multiple gold ear rings and lots of silver jewelery (along with lots of clad change). Another way of picking up a little treasure, if you can get access.

CODY thats a Good idea????? Ring i found 2 Months ago that Has CODY in side i Like it to mutch too find the owner,
Took me 25 years to find it????? Mickfin

Along the topic If you have any access to small dumps where they still throw away clothes dryers take a claw hammer- tear off the whole top lid- force the front off 4 screws to break- rip out the drum and go thru the lint in the bottom. You maybe surprised at what the spinning bandits have stole from some family. Paper money small chains earrings rings and sometimes a handful of change. 2 I tore apart a month ago yielded 9.44 and 1small chain. Check yours before you get rid of it!!! Most people don't know this.

old sofas sitting out trash night. take a razor knife with ya and cut all along the outside where the lost items go when ya sit down. I've been very successful in this endevour. Rings, coins, paper money, driver's licesence, pistol, watch out for needles!......nge

Im glad you all didnt think I was crazy. I knew about looking in couches but never thought about chlothes dryers.

Thats an awesome way to get to detect when travelling! Thanks! All these ideas are great! Dont forget about old desks in the trash or at estate sales either...sometimes the old guys taped a coin to the bottom of a drawer. I remember when me and the wife were really poor...I fashioned a long handled scoop and pulled enough money out of the floor drain in the basement to go buy some bread...it had got washed down there over the years out of the laundry area.

Here is a shot of some of the things you can find in large old city sewers. This was just one persons share of what they were able to salvage without getting in trouble for treasure hunting instead of working. Coins were just everywhere. If i was on this job I would have had them dump the stuff in my front yard. They said coins were just sticking out of the sides of the calcium build-up and debris that they were cleaning and re-habbing. Crazy stuff! Personnaly for me I was on a job where a one sewer line ran through another line and the lower line broke open. The line acted as a riffle over the years, like a gold sluice and was full of debris including coins. Not a whole lot but still some silver and old nickels, etc. Dentures, glasses, old razors, etc.
