pinpointing

Need some advice on pinpointing with my new T-2. Out for the first time yesterday and for the first time I had problems pin-pointing my targets. I did the X and also heel/toe method. However, none were consistant. Even when I had an Explorer, I had no problem. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I first pinpoint in the usual way. Then I turn 90 degrees and pinpoint again along a line that runs through the point I found in the first step. In doing this I often find that the first point was off a little, especially if the target is shallow. After the second pinpoint I dig.

This works well for me and only takes a few extra seconds.

I'll just add that you can (and sometimes should) further pinpoint by pulling the trigger closer to the target. This narrows the pinpoint size. So, a target that is giving you a 12" wide signal (thought tighter in the center) can be further narrowed by started your pinpoint only a few inches from where you think center is. But, if you do it too close the target will disappear.

I find that pinpoint is wider top to bottom due to the coil type. Not a problem though (usually). Turning 90 deg. usually fixes that problem. Also, remember where you got your initial beeps, they are an accurate center point.

One more idea, learn to adjust the pinpoint sensitivity by turning the knob as you pull the trigger. I often desensitize it to better "feel" the target out. Default is 60, you can lower it to 20-40 as a trial. It will stay there to you restart the machine. This is also good when you are close to something that is large and steel that is interfering with the pinpoint (ie. fence, grate, etc.).

Guess I "just added" a little more than I first planned on. ;)
