Pinpointing with the Vision

On the DFX when Pinpointing you went by the strongest Audio and when the Two bars were side by side and then you were 99% dead center .........Looking at the Field manual The 2 side by side bars are gone?............. and you go by the Strongest Audio only and no Bars?....,,,,,,... little confused on the Pinpointing ........... will be getting my Vision on Saturday.

There are various methods for displays in pinpointing. I think the default comes up with three bars that display when you are in 3 frequency mode. The bar on top is the 22.5k, the one in the middle is the 7.5k and the one on the bottom is 2.5k. This will give you additional information because the frequency that responds strongest to your target will be bigger than the other 2. And of course when these bars are at their longest is when you are centered over the target. You can also configure it to show a scrolling graph rather than the bars. Sort of like the analyze screen, but it definitely has a different look - they are not the same. The same applies - when you see the signal at its maximum, you are over the target. You can get the same information - the frequency that responds best to the target will be the higher frequency (this is the same as the analyze graph). You can also configure it to display only the depth signal (either meter or scan). The other 2 hold more info though.

(Expert menu/configure/search display/pinpoint/scan or Expert menu/configure/search display/pinpoint/meter. I might not have the exact wording correct here - I don't have one in front of me but that's close).

Hope that helped rather than confused! Enjoy your new detector.

I pay little attention to the bars in pinpointing Rob. I use the VCO- ON and pinpoining takes just a second or two to hear dead center. The target will be right under the center of the coil.

VCO is a wonderful thing. Really frees you up visually to get that target pinpointed exactly. My issue is just getting used to a large DD.

Adding...

As you have noticed, pinpointing bars are a little different than the DFX. The DFX had 2 bars - one that gave the history of the strongest signal so far, and the other was the current signal. On the Vision, you have the same history, but it's shown by an outline of the bars. So, as you go over the target, the bar will increase to its maximum. As you leave the target, the outline will stay at that maximum level (as long as you keep the fade rate off - you can configure the outline to fade over time as well), but the bar itself will decrease. So, you get the frequency information with all 3 bars (or 1 if running single frequency), plus where it has the maximum signal seen so far.

How many manufactures Engineers will donate their time to answer questions on the products they helped develop? White's and their employees are a first class company IMHO with a first class product.

From what I understand, ak_1234 is a software engineer responsible for much of what Vision does and can do. We owe her our thanks and gratitude as we do the rest of the White's team for not only bringing us a detector we have wanted for many years, but also taking the time to help us understand how to use it.

Bravo Ken White and Company, BRAVO..........:please:

Thanks All.......sure the PP will be a snap as with all past white's machine's ..........I have a 100 + Acre City park to practice in.

just watched the whites vision video,i'm a long time sectrum xlt user, and have become very comfortable with the
ratchet pinpoint,as the vco is to much for my sensitive ears(space ship coming in for a landing) ha
typically when i pinpoint i drag my coil slowly across the target listening to the rise and fall of the target signal
X-ing out the target is pretty accurate to say the least, and sometimes i'll find the edge of the target and move the coil
in a circle staying just on the edge of the target the whole time.
anyhow my question is ,is the opperator in the vision video performing a proper pinpoint method by swinging the coil?
as apposed to dragging the coil as i have mentioned above, just curious if my pinpoint method will change with the vision?

You can pinpoint using X method, or you can depend solely upon the sound and graphs on the Vision. Both are very accurate.
