Pinpointing with the CTX 3030

How does a person pinpoint modern Canadian clad with the CTX?
Do other minelab detectors behave the same way?
At shallow depths or if the clad is on the surface the detector nulls out while pinpointing. I have tried both the normal and sizing options with no difference.
Loonies are worse than quarters.
Any clad targets under about 3 in.null.
I understand the minelab detectors hate iron, but you'd think they should be able to pinpoint all metals.
Note:
Modern Canadian clad is about 94% steel.
I didn't buy the CTX 3030 for clad, but occasionally I do hunt for clad, especially the loonies and toonies. ($1.00&$2.00)

I've found that steel coins do sound off in pinpoint mode, but only on the edges of the coil (North, South, East, West). They do null out when the center of the coil is right over them.

I just did, and it did. Mostly :)

If you have high FE numbers discriminated out, and if the coin is close to the coil (i.e. shallow), the response is definitely weaker and might have no audio. I guess that argues in favor of using an open screen in areas that aren't too riddled with iron.

As for as pinpointing goes, it definitely sounds off, though only on the edges of the coil as I described in my earlier post.

Yes it does sound off on the edges of the coil in pinpoint mode, but it is not where you're expecting it....under the logo.
Because of this you could end up digging a crater!
On a side note, this is with no discrimination....which really shouldn't make a difference when a person is pinpointing.

Have you tried raising the coil on those shallow targets when pinpointing. The CTX will detune quickly on shallow targets close to coil .

I agree it's frustrating :) I don't know why steel coins pinpoint like that. If in normal mode the target reads like a steel coin, I try pinpointing by moving the coil West to East over it. If I hear the sequence "sound, null, sound", then I can be pretty sure it is steel. I then figure out where to dig by moving the edge of the coil slowly until the sound starts dropping off. In theory, the coin should be beside the edge of the coil.
