pinpointing with the ace 250

hello folks,

Ive been using the ace 250 now for about 3 month. my pinpointing got a lot better thought pretty good. until over the holidays i was given another detector( o'rion rocket stage 2 with an 8" con. coil)used it 3 times for a total of 6 hrs. the pinpointing is amazing when X ing a target as soon a the coil (in pinpoint mode) passes over the target the signal stops making p.p very precise my holes are so much smaller than when using the ace an always dead center. why? i use detuning and X ing with the ace but i end up digging deeper and to the sides for some wide holes. don't get me wrong i love the ace but wish i could p.p. with it like the o'rion. help

I've own my 250 for about a month and sometimes pin point is right on others times I'm no where near it. . the type of ground has a lot to do with it. I just got back from a church that was built around 1920 that has fell in on it's self . I spent two or three hours there and nothing . Later Graw :yo:

Pinpointing is always easier with a concentric coil. The pinpoint is right in the center. I have had the Ace 250 since the beginning of the year and now I can pinpoint very accurately with it. I would still not trade the extra depth I am able to get with the Ace for any other detector!

The problem ( actually not a problem ) is that the Ace has an oval coil and they don't pinpoint like a round coil, but pinpoint almost like a DD coil.

Have you been following the kazilions of instructions on this forum for how to pinpoint? The oval coil pinpoints differently than a round coil. Do you scan side to side until you get the strongest signal, then stop and drag the coil straight back until the instant the signal stops? Are you watching the signal strength indicator on the display? It tells you when you are centered over the target

Bill.

yes I scan side to side watching the indicator for strength and depth and i X the target then slid the coil away from me then back to me. and it work 75% of the time but the other 25% is hell. sometimes its a little lead sinker other times i can't find it or its off to the left or right if i think it a can or something like that i raise the coil about 3 or 4" and still get a signal its a can i dig most target unless it falls 1 notch below nickel or broken up dong tone. alot of times i can trace the object like a gutter spike, nail, or something long. anyway I'll keep at it thanks guys.............later

If you do like I say on shallow targets you will nail them every time. Deeper targets will be a little fartgher back from the tip of the inside oval.
