pinpointing with gt

Paul-NJ

New member
Got back into the hobby last Oct. with a Sovereign GT. I've use a sovereign in the past and also an explorer xs. I had no problems pinpointing with either one and always had good finds. For some reason, I'm having problems pinpointing with the GT. In fact, I got so frustrated that I bought an M6. However, I'm determined to use and become proficient with the GT no matter what. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Paul

If you have used a Sovereign before than pinpointing should be no problem with the GT as it pinpoints the same. There is a couple of ways to pinpoint and I use them both depending on the target. One thing first is I only hunt in disc as I feel I get more depth and can hear the changing tones better. Now I leave my one toggle switch in pinpoint all the time as this switch is only active when in all metal. After i find the target I want to dig I will switch the toggle switch that is the all metal, iron mask on or off to all metal which now makes the pinpoint switch active. Now you are in pinpoint to pinpoint the target so if this one was a deeper and weaker signal I will go side to side to center the target, but not forwards or backwards. Now I will push the coil to the ground so it don't move off that spot and turn 90 degrees and go side to side again until the target is centered, Now you will find your target right under the very center of the coil. The other way while in pinpoint if a more surface target is just move the coil back to you while swinging the coil back and forth just over the target, when you lose the signal i will push the coil back and forth so the target is right on the very tip of the coil so now I am just on the edge of the signal and the target now will be right on the very tip or back about 1/2 inch from the tip. Now this is for coin size target and bigger surface targets may be further out from the very tip of the coil a little.
One thing you should get if you don't have one is a Sun Ray S1 probe as this will make finding the targets that are deeper or at a angle so much easier and faster to find. I feel my S1 has more than paid for itself with the extra target i can dig in the time out plus If there is a signal that is good or bad I will find it.

That is great information on how to pinpoint with the GT.:detecting:

I put my Sovereign Digital Meter on my GT yesterday it helped, but also made it confusing, (new learning curve) I also put my S-1 probe on the detector. (more new learning curve):yikes:

But I can say that this forum is a Treasure Trove of information.
Thanks
