pinpointing with Ace 350

I went out today and had a hard time pinpointing. Part of the problem was the area I choose, it turned out to be covered with lawn mower shredded beer cans. The other part of the problem is that I am new and I need to practice, and or get some advise from you all. I am thinking of making a practice area with some buried coins and maybe beer cans and bottle tops, any advise you can offer would be appreciated.

If you have never detected before it will take some practice but you will master it in a short time after digging multiple targets. A test garden can be helpful in testing settings and depth determination. One thing you can do is take a large square of cardboard and poke some holes in various places around the card board spaced appropriately to test targets. On one side of the cardboard tape various targets centered on your small holes for instance; coins, pull tab, gold rings etc. etc. On the other side mark with a pen or marker what you have taped to the other side and then practice pinpointing.

I would do this outside so your not picking up nails in the floor too. Also items in the ground if laying on edge or an angle or deep will cause you to be off a little when pinpointing. The more targets you dig the better you will get.

Next great advice would be, invest in the Garrett Pro Pointer. Saves lots of time.

becoop, gave you some excellent advice, Stay away from the real trashy areas for now, I had to dig 1,000 targets before I got good at it :)

The easiest way and you can pinpoint without even using the pinpoint button. Just center the target in the middle of the coil then drag it straight back towards you as you wiggle it side to side an inch or two each way. When the signal stops the target on shallow coins will be right under the Garrett logo on the tip of the coil. On deeper targets they will be behind that point an inch or so. With a little practice you can do it in your sleep.
