Pinpointing with a DD coil

I bought a F75 DD coil to use on my F70. Does the DD coil emit a narrow signal the full length of the coil compared to a cone shaped signal of the concentric coil and is it difficult to pinpoint with the DD coil? Thanks in advance.

It does have a narrow band of detection the full length of the coil and takes some getting used to for pinpointing. The easiest way for me is once you have a signal centered left to right, move the coil slightly off center and hit the pinpoint button again. You can slide the coil forwards and backwards to get the smallest signal possible. The target center will be obvious once you have done this. Takes a little practice and is called "detuning". Works great on all coils to narrow the signal down. When I first started using the F 75, pinpointing gave me fits until I tried this method. Now I have no problem.

With a DD you pinpoint off the front or rear center tip of the coil. There is no receiver coil for pinpointing and they detect as deep at either end as they do anywhere else.

Scan side to side until you get the strongest signal then drag the coil straight back until the instant the signal quits. The target will then be under the front center tip of the coil.

my t-2 is similar, like mentioned above -detune and my PP in the center of the coil, usually i don't detune, but it will help at first

Surely not as easy as a concentric and tried various ways and imagine their are several that work but I found basically get a signal and move 90 degrees around and where the signals meet works for me. DD coils work sort of like a windshield blade and have the hot spot right down the center. Have seen guys run a piece of tape down the center in an off color of the coil until they get the feel for it. Got my start with Whites bigfoot coils many years ago and practice in your backyard and in the hunt use the same technique and one should become proficient..
