pinpointing questions

Hello, folks! I'm a newbie; just got a Silver uMax 3 weeks ago, and I'm learning my way around my lawn before I go anywhere else. I'm having trouble pinpointing; sometimes I go down with my screwdriver and the coin is right there, other times I dig and dig and discover that i was off by an inch or two. I love the detector, but I need to improve my technique. Can anyone help?

Cicada, you have a great little detector there and it pinpoints very well, but since you are new at the hobby I suggest that you keep practicing in your yard and after awhile it will come naturally to you. When you hit a target, slow down and keep your eye on the center of the coil and " x " the target keeping in mind where it sounds the loudest and the target will be there. You might want to invest in a Garrett pro pointer pinpointer to help you locate the target once you cut a plug. Wish I could help you more but it will take you a short time of using your Silver

Thanks for the welcome, and I'll give it a try. I'd love to get a Pro Pointer, but the budget is tight...

All Tesoro's are laser-like in pinpointing, one of the best.
Keep xing targets and your ears will eventually get accustomed to the slightly louder sound as your coil center passes over the target.
It is a learned skill, and it won't take too long, I know it all sounds the same at the beginning, which is normal.

If you can't get the Propointer, look into the Cen-Tech Harbor Freight unit.
Waaay better than nothing and very helpful in recovery.
