Pinpointing Question

Took my new Explorer XS out for its maiden run yesterday (my other machines have been Whites).
My usual technique after pinpointing a target is to lay the detector down, dig the hole, and use a hand-held pinpointer to find the target. My problem is, I couldn't silence the Explorer--it continuously made "pulsing" sounds, making it impossible for me to hear my hand-held (and annoying the heck out of me). Moving the explorer to other locations (in case it was picking up another target) did not solve the problem. Removing the headphones is too cumbersome. Any ideas on how quiet the thing down while digging a hole? Thanks, Dan

Dan;
did you turn the pinpoint back off before you put it down?
If not it will do that.
Next invest in an X-1 probe will make pinpointing a breeze.

They are noisey machines. Sounds like your sens is too high as I think you described falsing. Also the threshold will always sound off, it is not a silent machine. I had a whites also and after 1/2 a year I am finally getting use to the Explorer.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm in the habit of leaving the machine in "pinpoint" while digging, as I frequently need to re-sweep the hole. So the oscillating pinpointing tone is apt to drive me nuts. Sounds like the X-1 may be just what the doctor ordered. Good tip! Happy hunting, Dan

Dan;
The X-1 is the best thing since sliced bread <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
It makes locating a target in the hole a breeze.
Best of luck with your explorer.
the secret is practice.

Sounds like you are using the pinpoint mode to do your pinpointing. If so it sounds like you are leaving the pinpoint on, I also use the pinpoint mode and if I forget to turn it off I get the same sound.
Randy.
