Pinpointing question

New member
2500 machine. When I pin point, the find always seems to be a couple of inches lower or to the lower right side of where I think it should be.

Question 1 - Do you place the coil on the ground or try to keep it at the same height as detecting?

Question 2 - Is there a way to detune the 2500 to be more exact on pinpointing.

Question 3 - Do you push your probe down in the exact center of where the small part of the coil is located.

Question 4 - A lot of time, I get a bell tone signal and when pin pointing I find that the signal was actually coming from a fringe object that is not bell tone conductive.

(1) Centering the taget correctly is crucial with all GTI's. Watch the signal strength indicator at the top ofthe screen. Whe the cursors have lined up all the way across - the target is centered in the center of the small loop in the middle of your coil. You can pinpoint with the coil on the ground or up slightly.

(2) You detune like you do with any other detector. Once you have pinpointed rlease the pinpoin button and press again. You ca do this several times until the signal is reduced to where you want it.

(3) The center of the small loop will be where your target is.

(4) Don't quite understand this one.

Thanks, Bill......I have mostly worked highly trashed areas. I am going to find less trashy area and just practice pinpointing until I can get good at probing. Can't wait to start popping coins instead of digging plugs. Not being good at pinpointing makes you have to dig plugs and that is not acceptable, if you want too start working lawns, etc......Coach C.

Hi Coach, first thing to do make you a practice garden a few dollars of coins and plant them in a garden to practice on. Make sure the area is clear of trash and mark each hole with a golf tee and put some pull-tabs next to the coins a nail, some foil, and put 3-5 different coins in the same hole for a pocket dump test. Did I say practice a lot on it until you get the hang of the GTI and you can tell what targets really look like. Leave the garden in place so you can go out during the winter a few time and refresh. I have don this on every detector I have had for the last 40 yr. I still have the garden I planted 26 yrs ago. I have added a few silver coins a few gold rings(10k,14k) a ear ring stud, a Small gold chain. just so I can practice on it, and I do still keep sharp on it. Make sure you make a map of the garden so you don't lose anything or forget what it is.You will get really good with the GTI and man there is not many detector that you can't smoke with the GTI .Try some custom programs you set up for your garden and save it. so you can just select it and smoke'em.
