Pinpointing and other stuff

I know my questions seem goofy at times but I seriously don't "get" the manual. The language and presenting order/headings and flow of the writing is confusing.

So my confusion tonight is about target trace / target trace pinpoint / pinpointing in with normal or sizing / and how they all relate to each other with the pinpoint trigger.

From my understanding, target trace leaves the info on the screen and pinpoint trace does the same thing but while in pinpoint mode (trigger depressed). That's the only difference. They are basically the same but one is trigger off and the other is trigger on. In my mind it is target tracing amd target tracing w/ pinpoint engaged. Right?

Now this normal and sizing business. Am I correct that this setting only has an influence while actively using the pinpoint function (trigger on)? And this is the no-motion pinpointing?
Now I assume you can pinpoint without even using the pinpoint mode correct? At least I have, as I sometimes forget to use the trigger. Pinpointing without using the pinpoint trigger is simply an "in-motion" style? If I don't engage the trigger, the normal or sizing pinpoint option has no bearing at all correct?

So do I have this figured out? Thanks folks.

Bob,

If I read your post correctly you are correct in your assumptions.

Whew. Thanks Ralph. Sometimes I need to process it a little differently.

To be honest I haven't used the pinpoint trigger that much because I forget about it. I really should start using it as pinpointing seems to be difficult for me :) I wonder if everyone uses it or if some just try to cross it in motion mode like I have been doing.

And last time I was out I forgot I turned the pinpoint lock on and tried detecting for a few minutes while it was engaged. I was laughing because I couldn't figure out what was going on.

I definitely use the pinpoint. I like the normal mode as it narrows the target width with each successive sweep across it. Auto detuning...yeah!

Sounds like you have a good understanding.
