Pinpointers

Ok, I am adding to my arsenal of metal detectors next week by purchasing a new Minelab Explorer SE Pro. I already have a X-Terra 705, a Gold Bug Pro, and a GPX 5000 and am using a portable pinpointer right now. The one I am using is the DetectorPro PistolProbe PI unit. It seems to be a decent PP, but I have heard a lot about the Sunray as well. Using the PistolProbe is okay when I am swinging the 705 or the GB Pro, but when I use the 5000 the probe goes all crazy because both the probe and my detector are PI units. So my question is: Should I just keep the PistolProbe and kill the headphones on the 5000 when I PP'ing? Or should I give the PistolProbe to my ladyto use with the 705 and get the sunray for the Explorer? Thanks.

I would go with option 2, Sunray x-1 for the Explorer. That's a no brainer to me. JJ

I too have the Pistol Probe and an Explorer SE. What your getting is crosstalk between the two units. What I do when I use the pinpointer is to turn the detector so the coil is farthest away from the Pistol Probe. If you don't like doing that you can adjust the frequency on the Pistol Probe to a frequency the detector is not using.

Killing the headphones is not going to solve your problem. If your getting crosstalk with the Pistol Probe it's performance will suffer. The Pistol Probe is by far the deepest probe on the market when used properly. The advantage of the Sunray is that it is basically a one inch probe running on the same frequencies of your detector. The disadvantage in that it usable only on that detector. I say keep the Pistol Probe.

Detector Probe is an excellent company to deal with. They completely stand behind their products. I just sent my probe in for repairs. The probe was almost 4 years old so I was expecting a hefty repair charge being the unit was 2 years out of warranty. I had called them pror to sending it in and they told me they would either repair or replace it. They had it only one day and decided to replace with a new unit. To my surprise a few days later I get a UPS delivery of a new probe that cost me nothing, not even the cost of shipping. I had heard about Detecto Pro's superior service here on Findmall and now I can also say I too have received that level of service.

If you had one detector the inline in an excellent choice. Its a great upgrade it does add weight, wires, no probe interferance, and you dont have to worry about loosing it. You have to weigh the gain vs the money spent.
