Pinpointer

New member
Looks like I'll have to break down and buy a pinpointer.
I took the MXT out with the 6x10 coil (before the dang VDI went crazy again) and while I did find most of my targets, I dug forever
trying to find others!!!! Whats a good low cost pinpointer cost these day?

Robert R

Rob,

I always use a pinpointer. It allows me to spend a lot more time detecting, and a lot less time sifting through a dirt pile for a target. I always regret when I forget to bring it, or when I allow the battery to run out while I am out. To me it is more important than a digging tool! I can always use my hands for that!!

I use the Vibraprobe 560. It is completely submersible and has no external switch, which is great. You just point it up, and it turns on. It will turn off automatically when it is inactive for one minute. It vibrates when you find your target, so there is no need to remove your headphones.

I used a White's Bullseye II pinpointer for a little while, but the activation button went bad and I had to have the unit replaced. The same thing happened a second time, so I sold the new replacement on eBay and purchased the Virbraprobe for roughly the same amount. I think they recently came out with a newer model, the vibraprobe 570.

I recommend checking out Metal Detector Reviews before making any metal detecting purchase, but it can sometimes be information overload!

I hope this helps!
Neil

Hello Niel:
Little too expensive for me. Have to keep
within a budget. I'll call whites and see if anything
has been done to solve the problem with their
button. ALso I understand Bounty Hunter has an inexpensive
pin pointer. :)-)
Thanks

Hey Robert, I use the Sun-Ray DX-1 in-line probe on my MXT and I love it, but it is spendy, but well worth it. I still use Kellyco's Automax pinpointer with my other detector and my wife still uses the AutoMax with her MXT and she loves it. Kellyco has them on sale from time to time, so contact JW and see what he can do for you. If they are still out of your price range watch the forums classifieds as I have seen them on there from time to time. Good luck finding one. HH Dennis in Idaho

I purchased a Vibraprobe off eBay last year and was waiting for it to get here and I saw the DX-1 probe by Sun-Ray and bought it also. That had to be one of the BEST investments. I still have the Vibraprobe in my closet (some where) and never used it. If I find it I will post it here. I'll sell it cheaper that ebay! If not I'll post it for sale in the classifieds on here.

I forgot all about it until I saw this thread! lol

I like this old pinpointer, I have replaced the switch twice with toggle switches but have had it for about 10 years.

Well, I may do that. I wasn't too happy with Kelly Co
But they seem willing to make things right so why not
let by gones be by gones? Right?

I'll give them a call and see.
Still, the Bounty Hunter Pin Pointer isn't bad, I'm told. BUT was I TOLD
correctly?

Robert, I agree with Gadget Guru 100%. I've used the Bullseye pinpointer and its good, but the SunRay is just GREAT!
More accurate with a stronger signal. Speeds up your target recovery by far. You will cover more ground in the same amount of time. The price is $179.00. Worth the bucks if you can afford it. Iv'e kept the Bullseye as a backup spare.
Let me know if you would like to try it.

I agree the sunray probe is wonderful, but expensive. Also, it's tied to the machine, you can't use it with your ACE, so that is something to consider. The use of a pinpointer has increased the speed of recovery for many of my finds and I never hunt without it.

I also use the DX-1 with my MXT. In my mind it is the best investment I ever made as far as pinpointers go. I traded a coil I didn't like so, it didn't hurt. It does add some weight to the machine. However, I purchased an optional mounting bracket from Sun-Ray to mount the probe on the box of the MXT. It balances out better and it gives the illusion of getting rid of the extra weight because its no longer on the shaft. Some guys also complain the DX-1 is hot for about 2"-3" or so up the probe. No problem for us MXT guys. Just click your trigger and hold it and it detunes the probe down to about the tip making it much easier to pinpoint. I have a Vibraprobe also but my favorite is the DX-1

I'M wondering on the DFX, if the same problem with the sunray pinpointing two to three inchs up the probe if pulling trigger will bring it closer to the point Thank you

the only problem with the sunray is if you have other machines that it won't fit you get frustrated using other pinpointers. when I go from my XLT/sunray to my fisher or tesoro I get frustrated and use the bullseye not that it's a bad probe just not a sunray:pulltab:

I used the VIbraProbe for a long long time and it served me well. I picked up a Sunray DX1 last summer and in my opinion it is the BEST. Not low cost but worth the extra $$ if you can swing it. Even though it does add weight, it makes up for it in recovery speed and you can carry the probe in your pocket to ease the extra weight.

Stay away from it/ I got one (Bounty Hunter pinpointer) and it is not worth the money /save your dough and get a decent unit/ I brought it as a spare . I'm glad I have another pinpointer !!

Gee, Tin Nugget, if we should ever get together we would probably have a problem. Going by your detector picture, we each have the exact same equipment.:clapping:

Thanks Treasure friend:
BTW when I clicked on the link you gave the security on
my computer came up with a warning: "Suspicious website...could be a phishing
site." SO just to let you know. I use the computers at the public library and
the security here is pretty good.
