pinpointer ?

Morning ; I think anyway; Got a question that maybe i can get some input on. All the Explorers I have had I used a Sun Ray Probe on. Very happy with their results. Of late i have been using a garrett and dif machines, actually the reason for the garrett is using a couple of dif. machines all the time.
Well question is on the Etrac does anyone have experience using both and finding which seems to work the best. ???? I know on some machines i have tried the sun ray does not preform as well as it does on others. On a Sovg. I had it seemed to go deeper than the big coil :) on another machine it was less impressive. Appreciate feedback on this.

Also one other Dumb question since numbers are really in my opinion kinda vague ill still ask. Most jewelry like gold rings mens and womens, what general range do they fall in??
Thanks Much
Grumpy.

Both have their advantages..The Sunray is deeper than the Garret in most cases, but does not lock in as tight...Personally, I would have both if I could.

HH,

thanks digger; that is what i had figured. I can get a sun ray and hold off selling the garrett til i check it out thoroughly.

The Sunray in-line probe will discriminate just like your machines does, the Garret will pick up all metal. When pin pointing in a hole its nice to hear the ring of silver with the Sunray probe on my Etrac! Best of luck.

I have both and wouldn't do it any other way. If I initially can't find it with my garrett, then I use the sunray and it will usually locate it. Also, I like it for targets close to the surface. I recently had to send my garrett back so I used the sunray in the meantime. Garrett replaced my old one. I haven't found any gold with mine yet, but my son has found two gold rings and both rang up in the 12/06 range.

I think the garrett is better but like that the x1 hooks up to my headphones. I feel like it is a notch below the garrett, but I prefer it because I don't have to give everyone around me a heads up that I just found a clad penny.

I also own both and I know for a fact the garrett pro pointer goes deeper than the sun ray. It is nice to have discrimination with the sun ray. If I had to pick one to have it would be a pro pointer. HH.

The Garrett Pro-Pointer fantastic ...

I don't like the idea of adding a extra11 oz. to an already heavy metal detector - the Garrett has no wires - it operates totally free of your machine - separate battery system, etc.
Plus, sometimes I use tent stakes to mark 5 or 6 good targets - put my machine down - and just go back with my pin pointer and digger and dig all of the targets at the same time.
I'm more than willing do dig some junk metal out of the hole now and then - to find the one good target that I'm after for the advantages mentioned above.
